Fob Watches

A fob watch is a type of pocket watch that has a spring-hinged circular metal cover that closes over the watch face for protection. Another name for a fob watch is a hunter-case pocket watch, and fob watches are often assoicated with the nursing profession. Most antique or vintage fob watches’ covers hinge at the 9 o’clock position, with the head of the watch at the 3 o’clock position. More modern fob watches’ covers hinge at the 6 o’clock position, with the head of the watch face at the 12 o’clock position (as with wrist watches). In both designs, the sub-seconds dial is always at the 6 o’clock position.
