Tachymeter watches

A tachymeter watch function is the indexed dial around the rim of some more technical watches that is used to measure speed or distance based on time, and is typically used in combination with a chronograph.

To use the tachymeter function to measure speed, start the chronograph at a starting market of a known distance. At the next marker, the point on the scale adjacent to the second hand indicates the speed (in distance between markers per hour) of travel between the two markers. Whilst distance can be measured by timing travel over that distance while the speed is held constant. Tachymeters are famously used at NASCAR events to measures the car speeds, generally found on pilot watches.
